Spring is upon us and so is the warm weather. The SWLGS/LGS Golf tournament is set for Friday May, 19 beginning at 8:00am at the Squirrel Run golf course in New Iberia. Brian Brennan, the Tournament Chair always puts on a good event; so round up a team, send in that entry and if you can, sponsor a hole or two for the tournament to help SWLGS/LGS. The night before the golf tournament, May 18th, there will be a crawfish boil at the American Legion Hall (1501 Surrey St). Tickets are included with the cost of your golf fee, or non-golfers may pay $15 at the door.
Our monthly Lunch meeting will be held on April 19th at the Petroleum Club. Our speaker this month is Kody Shellhouse. His talk is entitled “The Cretaceous-Paleogene Boundary Deposit in LaSalle Paris, Louisiana”. Kody is currently completing his Master’s in Geology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, working with Dr. Kinsland.
Congratulations to the UL student Imperial Barrel Team, which came in 2nd at the GCAGS Regional Competition in March. The competition was fierce and we are impressed with their regional performance over many good teams. We hope they’ve caught up on some much needed rest!
On Saturday, April 29 we have a Crawfish Boil at the UL Alumni Center (Heymann House) starting at 12:00. Crawfish and cold drinks will be served! Tickets are $40 for professionals, $20 for students and can be purchased on our website or at the luncheon. All proceeds will be donated to the UL Geology program.
Lastly, we will have LGS elections for the 2017-2018 year between the April and May meetings. This will be by emailed ballot and will also be our annual membership dues collection. Ballots that are returned without dues (unless you are a Senior member) won’t be counted so there is a direct link between voting and dues. Any last minute nominations will be accepted at the April Luncheon.
See you at this month’s events!
