President’s Letter – April 2018

Dear LGS Members:

Our March meeting was the largest we’ve had in a while. Thanks to those of you who attended the joint meeting with SWLGS and heard the presentation from Carl Fiduk. It was great seeing the room filled with so many of our members. Thanks to Julia Battle for organizing and supervising the annual “Dino Dig” at Broadmoor Elementary on March 20th. Our gratitude also goes to our volunteers, Brian Brennan, Tim Duex, Andy Graves, Samantha Leone, Steve Nevitt, and Bill Terrell. It was a pleasure volunteering with you. Thank you for your time and effort.

I hope you can join us on April 18th. We will receive a presentation from David Kosmitis from Talos Energy.

Thanks again to those of you who generously sponsored student lunches. We sincerely appreciate your dedication to helping the next generation of geoscientists. We plan to do the same at this month’s meeting. Don’t forget you can purchase tickets for lunch on our website.

Our next event and fundraiser is the annual crawfish boil. Please join us on April 21st beginning at 4:30 PM for delicious crawfish, cold drinks, and great company. We will meet at the Heymann House (Alumni Center, 600 E. St. Mary Blvd.) in Lafayette. You can purchase your tickets at the April meeting or via the LGS website.

Are you interested in becoming a board member for LGS? Now is your chance! We are looking for volunteers for several positions: advisor, president-elect, vice president, and secretary. Please let a current board member know if you’re interested. We will collect all the names and put a ballot together soon. Don’t delay!
Students: don’t forget to submit your application for the Jack Shirley Memorial SIPES scholarship. You should find a link to the application in the LGS Bulletin and on the website. The application deadline is April 16, 2018.

I’ll see you at lunch!

Jennifer
