President’s Letter – April 2021

To friends and colleagues,

Happy Easter! I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable weekend. After all the detritus from the winter freeze, it’s been great to see the azalea’s in bloom around town. Hopefully the colorful
exuberance seen outside is a good metaphor for the general optimism felt toward a return to pre-Covid  activities.

As the season changes, so too is it time for a board refresh. With dwindling employment opportunities for geoscientists in the Acadiana area, finding volunteers to help at the board level has become a bigger and bigger challenge. Please consider joining the LGS Board. In that vein, I want to offer a hearty thanks to the current board for their commitment during this trying year and for their helpful guidance. I appreciate you!

Our speaker this month is Ryan Weber of Paleo-Data Inc, who is presenting a talk entitled, “Redeposition of Microfossils related to Mega-Tsunami Events as analogs for deepwater deposition.” Please make plans to join us in person. As with previous months, we will attempt to stream the presentation online via zoom for those unable to attend. The board is also planning an LGS members and guest “garden party” for our first in-person social gathering this season. All are welcome! More details to follow.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or thoughts to improve society.

See you soon,
