President’s Letter – December 2017

Dear LGS Members:

Here we are at the end of another semester and the end of the year. I guess it’s true, time flies when you’re having fun. Thanks to those who attended the UL AAPG student chapter’s Cocktail Party at the Lafayette Science Museum. The students did a great job setting up and catering the event. They were even able to raise some funds that they plan to use on a Spring Break field trip. I hope many of you will attend the “Beer and Steer” event this Friday, December 7, at the Jefferson Street Pub. You may sign up here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lgs-beer-steer-with-legacy-steering-tickets-38973321253?ref=enivtefor001&utm_source=eb_email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=inviteformalv2&ref=enivtefor001&utm_term=attend.

Our next meeting will be held on December 20 at the Petroleum Club. We will hear a presentation by Andrey Klimushin from Emerson Roxar. They will also be sponsoring the luncheon. I hope you’ll join me in wearing your Christmas-inspired attire. The first luncheon of 2018 will be held on January 17.

I’d like to formally welcome our two replacement officers. Anne Brennan is our new secretary and Tony Cagle has agreed to be treasurer. We will miss the dedication of Elisabeth Boudreaux and Terri Bannister, but we are confident the transition will be a smooth one. Additionally, we are working to update our list of sponsors for the Bulletin as well as the website. It’s not too late to get your name added!

Here’s your lagniappe for the month – a book to read over your holiday break. The Map that Changed the World by Simon Winchester details the life and work of William Smith, as he began to correlate layers across England and the world. This would make a great gift, too!

I’ll see you Wednesday!
Jennifer
