President’s Column – January 2019

Dear All,

On behalf of the Lafayette Geological Society, I would like to wish you a happy New Year. May this New Year be filled with success, happiness, and prosperity for all of you!

Please join us on January 24th, from 5:30-8:30 PM for the LGS Eat and Greet Pizza Party at Deano’s. This is always a great event to catch up, and for student and professionals to meet.

This month we have the pleasure to host Richard Stoneburner, who will be giving a talk on the unconventional development of conventional reservoirs.

We will continue to have graduate students present posters during the luncheon. This week, Jamie Vornlocher present her results on the identification of the Asian Monsoon using isotopic analysis of fossil wood. Jamie’s results were recently published in Nature Geoscience! Moira Lyons will present the results of her research that aims at understanding human settlements in the Yunnan province, using sediment core.

Finally, I would like to remind you that there is still time to register for the shortcourse organized by the UL Lafayette AAPG student chapter. Tad Smith (retired from Apache) will be giving a shortcourse on Petrophysics and Seismic Rock Properties on Friday January 18th. The shortcourse os open to anybody, if you would like to register, see contact information on page 19-20 of this bulletin for more ingormation about registration.

My best,My best,
