President’s Column – March 2019

Dear All,

At the next luncheon (March 20th) we will have the pleasure of hosting about 20 students with dual enrollment between UL Lafayette and Comeaux Highschool. These students are currently taking geology classes, and we would like to show them our community and welcome them to our society! Hopefully all of them decide to pursue their education in Earth Sciences! Of course, that means that we will need help covering the cost of their lunch. The AAPG student chapter has stepped up and offered to help cover $5 per student. Any additional support is welcome!

We also set the date for our annual LGS fieldtrip to March 30th. Donald Segrera, Executive Director of the Teche-Vermillion Water District, along with our own Dr. Duex, will give us an overview of the Teche and Vermillion river system, and the regional and local hydrology. Please contact Tim to reserve your spot (tduex@louisiana.edu). We will send out more information soon!

At this time of the year, I would also encourage you to make donation to the various endowment set up between our society and the UL Lafayette Foundation, such as the Bill Paine Endowed Scholarship and the Joe Battle Memorial Geology Scholarship. Your generosity will provide scholarships for students in need and help them to pursue their career in the field of Earth Sciences.

My best,

Raphael_Sig
