May 2019 President’s Column

Dear All,

I would like to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your president and lead the Lafayette Geological Society. I learned a lot and was proud to represent Lafayette at the GCAGS meetings.

As a new season ends, I realize that the Society is facing some difficult times, with a declining professional membership and decreasing revenue. The age gap between professional and students grows a little more every year. I would like to give a special thanks to all of you that sponsored student lunches, the Society would not have been able to accommodate without your support!

Speaking of students, our last meeting will highlight four graduate students. They each will present the results of their subsurface mapping project course taught by Mr. Finley. All the project are from oil and gas field of Louisiana.
I could not have made it as President without the help of the Board of Directors. A lot goes on behind the scene to keep the Society afloat, and I thank their time, effort, and guidance!

My best,

Raphael_Sig
